The Adolescent Girls in Crisis research is drawn directly from the voices and experiences of girls in three of the world’s most troubled and volatile locations: South Sudan, the Lake Chad Basin and the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh. The campaign aims to empower young women and girls through targeted approaches that increase economic support and reduce HIV, teenage pregnancies, school dropout and gender based violence [ 20 ]. Grounded in four years of in-depth research in Ethiopia, Nepal, Uganda and Viet Nam, the book adopts a holistic approach, recognising the inter-related nature of capabilities and the importance of local context. research and documentation available on programming for girls, particularly on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and life skills, there has been little analysis of programs that address the multiple needs of adolescent girls, including enhancing their livelihood potential by building their economic agency. Adolescent girls living through these long-term crises face particular challenges in different locations. Campaign messages were based on formative research with adolescent girls, parents, health staff, teachers, and religious leaders.6 The behaviour change intervention strategy aimed to show that WIFAS and anaemia reduction would improve school performance and wellbeing of adolescent girls, rather than linking it to reproductive health (supplement 3).
