Protecting the safety of workers is an important part of health and safety management. Produced by Members of the CPI recovered paper sector health and safety committee. This guide has been prepared by the Health & Safety Committee of the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) – Corrugated Sector Body following a survey of a sample of materials handling installations in the UK. Within the paper industry, statistically musculoskeletal disorder and work-related stress have been identified as the main cause or work-related illness. It is intended as an aid for those who own, operate or maintain materials handling systems in the corrugated industry. The PABIAC committee will monitor industries performance in relation to health and safety through reports from PABIAC industry sector committees. This simple checklist is a good starting point for establishing if your baler is compliant against ‘Recover Paper Safely’ INDG 392. The paper industry, through PABIAC have set objectives to reduce the numbers of work-related ill health in both categories. This paper industry guidance has been developed by the Paper and Board Industry Advisory Committee (PABIAC).It is aimed at duty holders, including employers, and those with health and safety responsibilities for others, to help them comply with their legal duties, and reduce the risk of ill health from exposure to potential legionella bacteria and other bioaerosols in water systems.
